Hand Operated Clutch Lever

Mr. Jim Schreifels, Watkins, MN., provided the National AgrAbility Project his plans for a hand operated tractor clutch lever. Schreifels designed and made this lever to fit his John Deere 30, 40, and 50 Series tractors after he broke his left ankle. The lever allowed him to operate the tractor clutch with his left hand while his left ankle was healing.

Design #1 shown below is Schreifel's original design, while the others are all slight modifications of the original design. The picture on the right shows how the hand operated clutch lever attaches to the tractor clutch pedal. As Jim said, "This handle is a good example - one doesn't need a broken ankle to use it."

Design #2, #3, and #4 shown below, consist of a two piece lever to allow for more user adjustment, and differ slightly in how the lever is adjusted or clamped to the pedal. Also, the amount of bend offset in the original hand operated clutch lever design might have to be increased slightly to clear the dash covers on a John Deere 50 series tractor. (If you mouse over any
of the 4 designs below, the image will rotate.)
